Nfu Oh 58

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I have another Fall nail polish to show you today, Nfu Oh 58.  By Fall, I mean a color typical of the season, not a new release.

Nfu Oh 58 is and orange to green duochrome jelly base with a whole bunch of flaky glitter in it.  I decided to try it alone to see how well the color built up, and it did well with three coats.  Unfortunately, my short memory allowed me to use China Glaze Fast Forward over it, and jellies seem to show the polish shrinking clearly, so my tips aren't quite as fabulous as they could have been if I'd used a top coat that didn't shrink.

I like this one a lot because I think it looks like I have five little tiny piles of raked up fallen leaves on each hand.  For some reason, I always like a manicure better when I think it looks like something else.

China Glaze Crushed Candy Crackle

Good morning, Dear Reader!

About a week or so ago I showed you Nfu Oh 40 over Misa Quirky Smile, but what I didn't show you was that I got an extra day out of it by topping it off with China Glaze Crushed Candy, the Crackle Glaze that's about the same shade as For Audrey.  I really just wasn't particularly excited about removing the flakies, and it didn't occur to me until after I'd added Crushed Candy that I'd succeeded in making the situation a little worse.  Since we know by now that I was able to remove all of it, all's well that ends well, and it was fun while I wore it.

On this one, I really like how glowy the flakes are as they peek out of the kind of muted creme shade of Crushed Candy.  I think as long as a base polish and a crackle are pretty dramatically different from one another, I'll like them together.

Nfu Oh 40

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I thought I'd bring out an Nfu Oh flaky today, and I went with Nfu Oh 40. For the base color I chose Misa Quirky Smile, a teal shimmer. Quirky Smile was a two-coater, and I just ventured over to Trans Design to see what collection it's from (a recent one, I know), and noticed all of Trans Design's OPI pages are gone - everything OPI-related is just missing (TD got back to be, see update at the bottom of the page). Hmmmm... I'll have to remember to email David to ask what that's about. I also didn't find which collection the Misa's from, to get back to the topic of today's post, but that doesn't especially matter.

I added two coats of Nfu Oh 40 to Quirky Smile, and it turned out being a little bit better in real life than the best picture I could get with artificial light. It's a little mermaid-y, a little like a mosaic, and reminds me why I like Nfu Oh flakies.

I didn't alter this picture, I just had the good fortune of catching one where the bottle really shows how cool Nfu Oh flakies are. I only used one coat of top coat, and now that it's totally dry, the manicure could use one more to smooth it out completely, but I don't think it will take more than that. The only thing I dislike abut flaky glitters is the removal, which always makes me wish I had a mini sandblaster. I'm sure the neighbors would enjoy that show, me sitting on the lawn sandblasting away with my tiny portable sandblaster. Like they don't have enough questions about what the heck I'm up to, always taking lots of pictures of secret things I'm hiding in my hand...

That's the manicure, the made-up removal method, and the Trans Design news for today. If I'm able to get more information regarding the OPI situation, which I just stepped aside to send the email about, I'll pass it on as soon as I get it. Nfu Oh 65 & Chez-Delaney H2

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today is a reader request day, with the request being for a chevron manicure in any colors, something I haven't done in recent years.  I like them well enough for an occasional change of pace, but they take me forever because I'm picky.  I find it distracting if the chevron is even a hair asymmetric about the center line, so when I placed my first order for Chez-Delaney plates, I was interested in the chevron tip plate.

It turns out that I eyed the plain chevron, but I bought the modified one.  I figured it's close enough, so I went with it anyhow.  I chose Nfu Oh 65 over Aqua Base for the main color, then stamped the tip pattern from plate H2 in Blue Konad Special Polish.  I used Konad Top Coat and another coat of quick dry top coat to seal it.

What struck me about this pattern  is that even at this length, my nails are only marginally long enough for this stamp.  I got a little chip in the edge of my left ring nail and smoothed it out a few weeks ago, and on that nail the solid part of the stamp, the part closing the intersection of all the lines, didn't quite fit despite the fact that I placed the stamp with the sides closer to the cuticle than usual.  The other thing is I don't always get the very edges with a solid stamp, so I painted over the spots that had something missing.  The difference in opacity of the Konad polish shows in the picture, but not without magnification.

I said it was a reader request day,and it's a two-fer  An animated  gif of a holo was also requested (again, any color - I like vague requests!), so I made one.  I've never had a reason to make an animated gif before, so this is my first try at it.  I had to use artificial light for today's pictures, so there is variance between the one above and the ones below.  I chose the picture above because it's color accurate on my monitor, and the ones below because they show the holo well and line up well enough that you don't feel like you're watching Pong.

My Blue Jeans are Scandalous

A beautiful Scandal shade from my Sugar Mamma....I mean Jacie.This deep denim blue with subtle sharkle is so perfect that I added a lil Nfu-oh 52.The mix of sparklies and flakies is so beautiful. Nfu Oh 569 & CND Gold Sparkle

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Yesterday I did a manicure I really liked, so I thought I'd show it to you.  I wanted to use a CND Effects polish since I haven't used those much, and decided to go with Gold Sparkle.  I really like the Sparkle Effects a lot.  Having chosen that, I needed to pick a base color, and I went with Nfu Oh 569 (the one like NARS Zulu).  I used two coats of 569 and one of Gold Sparkle.

It's a little on the Christmassy side for October, but I like it just the same.

Grey sky got cheered up with a Night Party!

I don't do taupe but H&M Grey Sky from the good package Feline sentis so pretty in the bottle that I couldn't resist. I put it on with an accent nail of Quick & Chic Night Party, also from Feline. Then I realized that taupe almost blends into my skin tone, not manikin hands style but matchy. So I amped it up with Nfu-oh 50 and Happy Joy!Grey sky which is not grey at all but a very nice taupe with

Today's B minus zero on the Celebratory Birthday Countdown, so Happy Birthday, RMT!

Today I used a holographic nail polish I haven't shown you before, one from the last Nfu Oh sale.  Nfu Oh 64 is another pink holo, more lilac than Nfu Oh 63 and with a much more pronounced rainbow effect.  For this manicure, I used one coat of Nu Nails, one of Nfu Oh Aqua Base, two coats of Nfu Oh 64, and I finished it with Tout de Suite top coat.  Another difference between Nfu Oh 63 and 64 is that I needed three coats of 63 and only two of 64.  If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick 64.

Earlier this week I mentioned the difficulties in taking a picture of a holo, so I have two for you of this one.  The first one is under bright artificial light that accurately shows the color, and the second I took on the way to the computer under light bulb room light because the rainbow effect showed so well in there.

So Nfu Oh 64 is the official Birthday Holo for my friend RMT.  Truthfully, I've been having so much fun wearing holographic nail polish this week, I think I'm going to keep it up for the rest of the week.  I kind of decided to do that in honor of my mom - today is also the second anniversary of her death, and she would approve of making a week long celebration out of anything.  Her birthday is July 31, and she treated the entire month of July as a celebration, so it would make her happy to know I celebrated a birthday for a whole week!

Nfu Oh 63 & Konad M80

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today is B minus one in the celebratory holo countdown, and today's holographic nail polish is Nfu Oh 63, the pink one.  I used artificial light for today's picture, but have shown this one to you before in sunlight, where the holo effect is more pronounced.

For today's manicure, I used one coat of Nu Nails and one coat of Nfu Oh Aqua Base as a foundation.  I still needed three coats of Nfu Oh 63 for complete and even coverage, but since the dry time on the Nfu Oh holos is super fast that wasn't a big deal.  I finished it with Diamont, let it dry, then stamped it with a pattern from Konad plate M80 using Konad Black Pearl Special Polish, then sealed with another coat of Diamont.  Here it is dry.

Nfu Oh Holos and Aqua Base

Good afternoon, Dear Reader!

I'd heard about Nfu Oh Aqua Base for holos for some time, and finally decided to give it a try when I was ordering some Nfu Oh holos earlier in the week.  They arrived today, and I found that the Nfu Oh Aqua Base really does make a huge difference, making the holographic effect more pronounced.

I checked it with Nfu 61, 63, and 65, and at that point, was tired of swatching.  I used the Aqua Base for all three, three very thin coats of the holo color, and added top coat, SpaRitual Tout de Suite, to them as well to see what the finished manicure would look like.

I've shown you Nfu Oh 61 before - it's the silver.  It's much more holo with the Aqua Base.

Nfu Oh 63, a pink one, has just as dramatic an effect.

Then I was bored with swatches and did both hands in Nfu Oh 65, the light blue, to just be finished.

So I'm a convert, and will use Aqua Base with holos from now on.  Good stuff!

Silver Holographic Nail Polish

Good evening, Dear Reader!

I was going through a box this morning and ran into some silver holographic nail polishes, Chanel Holographic, GOSH Holographic, and Sally Hansen Crystal Ball, and I thought it might be worth taking a look at them along with a newly acquired China Glaze OMG and Nfu Oh 61.  That means I have lots of pictures of silver holos for you!

I used a base and top coat with all of these.  I used SpaRitual Lacquer Lock base because it's a bit sticky but not as much so as many, and I use SpaRitual Tout de Suite, my former HG top coat, because it's really, really thin.  I did two coats of each of the polishes, and took a picture of each in the sun and under artificial light.  The picture in natural light will be first for each.

The least holographic seemed to be China Glaze OMG.

The oldest and one of the easier to apply was Sally Hansen Magical Crystal Ball, but it took on a very pink tint in sunlight.

The most problematic to apply was Nfu Oh 61, but it's worth it for the strong holographic effect under both lighting conditions.

GOSH Holographic was easy to apply and has a strong holographic effect (with that name, it better...).

Of course, the very most holographic of all, and not bad to apply, was Chanel Holographic.  For this one, I used the base coat that came with it rather than the SpaRitual.  It's so good it gets an extra sunlight picture.

Much to my dismay, I've shown myself that the Chanel is by far the best.  Dang it, and dang the good taste I inherited from my mother!

Andreia's Dragon Wings

I did a little layering for today's manicure.I used 2 coats of Andreia 81, a gorgeous olive green with gold shimmer then one layer of Nfu-oh 40.I instantly fell in love. My nails look like dragon wings, well what I imagine they would look like.The pictures do not do this justice since my friend Sun was shy today.

Nfu Oh 52

Good morning, Dear Reader!

After swatching Misa's Black Out Collection, I needed a manicure, so I used a base coat with Black Out (the nail polish color, a black creme), two coats of Black Out, and added two coats of Nfu Oh 52 to it.  I don't like to do four coats of color, three is the limit of my comfort level, but I tested on one nail to see if a second coat of the Nfu Oh made a difference, and it did.

Nfu Oh 52 is a flaky glitter in a mostly blue base that goes to green, kind of a blue version of Nfu Oh 51.  This is another I got with the current FabulouStreet.com sale.

In normal, walking around circumstances, my pinky nail looks fine, but magnified, I see my application was a bit off!  I was just tired of swatching and doing my nails - by the fourth coat, I was hurrying to just be done with it.  I hope you can forgive me and see the pretty Nfu Oh for what it is!  See how the color shifts?  Pretty cool, I think.

I hope to get Misa's Mardi Gras swatched today, and depending on whether I accomplish that and my enthusiasm for them, you may see those later today.

Nfu Oh 61 & Konad M72

Good morning, Dear Reader!

FabulouStreet.com is having a sale on Nfu Oh's, and I took advantage if it.  I got my package yesterday, and the first one I used was Nfu Oh 61, the silver holographic one.

It took three coats to get rid of all the bald spots - the application wasn't the best.  I use SpaRitual Lacquer Lock Base Coat, which is a bit sticky, to help, and finished it with SpaRitual Tout de Suite, since that's watery thin and I didn't want to interfer with the holo effect.  Here's Nfu Oh 61 alone.

That's under artificial light - you can imagine how holo it is in sunlight.

I added a pattern from Konad Plate M72 to it, using Black Konad Special Polish.

I love holos.  They're generally high maintenance to apply, but so well worth the effort.  For silver holographic nail polishes, I think Nfu Oh 61, GOSH Holographic, and Chanel Holographic are a tie for first place.  The Chanel's slightly in the lead for holo effect, but given the price tag associated with it now, I'd call it a tie.

I believe Nfu Oh 61 might be out of stock right now, but if you email Jocelyn through the FabulouStreet contact form, she makes a waiting list and notifies people when things come back into stock.  There are other colors of Nfu Oh holos as well, a green and blue I have (just a slight tint of color), as well as a pink, and perhaps others (those are what I think of off the top of my head).  If you've been putting off a Nfu Oh purchase, now's the time to go for it.

Nfu Oh 51

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I'f mentioned recently that I had more Nfu Ohs to show you, and today I have Nfu Oh 51. I think I've shown this to you before, but it's a polish so nice we'll look at it twice.

The base color of Nfu Oh 51 is a duochrome-y purple jelly, and it's full of flaky glitter. On its own its quite sheer, requiring many coats to have depth, and I didn't have the patience for that so I layered it over a black shimmer. For the base color, I used two coats of the Revlon Dark Pleasures black shimmer nail polish, Black Patent or Patent Leather or something like that. A black shimmer, in any case. Then I added one coat of Nfu Oh 51 to it, loaded it up with top coat, and let it dry. It's completely dry in the pictures.

I had the rare moment of sun this morning, so I used it. I have two pictures for you, one in direct sun and one in indirect natural light, since duochromes have a different look in different light. With just one coat of Nfu Oh 51, the duochrome effect is not that dramatic. It would have been more so with a second coat, but flaky glitters can be a hassle to remove and one coat was sufficient, so I stopped there.

Nfu Oh Nail Polish

Good evening, Dear Reader!

I got a package today, and in it was Nfu Oh nail polish. I thought I'd swatch them for you, but honestly, I lost interest after the second swatch and made it a manicure. But, I still get to show you three of them. The pictures are all in moderate natural light.

First is Nfu Oh 569, a very dark green jelly. I've heard it's a dupe for NARS Zulu, but I thought Zulu was streaky and no longer have it to compare. 569 was not streaky and was easy to control, applying well. I used three coats for more coverage.

Next is Nfu Oh 270, a blue jelly. This one was a little streakier than 569, but was still easy to control and overall had good application. I felt my interest waning and stopped at two coats of 270.

Finally, I topped 270 with Nfu Oh 40. One coat was sufficient to make the manicure nice and sparkly.

Nail Polish in the Sun

Good afternoon, Dear Reader!

I have a couple of polishes for you today that are best shown in sunlight. I managed to get some cool pics of both, so I thought I'd show them to you together.

First up is Nfu-Oh #65, a light blue holo. I don't know whether you've seen this one before, but I know if I showed it to you, it sure wasn't like this!

Then we have Zoya Yasmeen. This one's a two coater, and did not take as long to dry for me as most Zoyas do.

What could make Yasmeen even better? Just a touch of Konad in Revlon Punch Chrome! Since the sun was coming in at an angle from my balcony, I took pictures of my right hand as well. I'm not good at taking pictures of my right hand, but it shows how well the Revlon Punch Chrome goes with the shimmer of Zoya Yasmeen.

Those are my nails in the sun!
