Ozotic Elytra 529 and 530

A few months ago, when I was looking for other interesting pigments to franken with, I was looking through the JDSU website and came across their Chromaflair Colorshift Glitter.  I instantly recognised the effects of the glitter as what is in the Ozotic Elytra polishes.  

I thought it would be awesome to be able to get these raw ingredients to be able to franken with, and I noticed they had four glitter colours, not three like the Elytras.  Why wouldn't they make all four glitters into Elytra polishes? The Silver to Gold glitter looks so pretty.  Peter, if your reading this, please get some of the silver to gold glitter and make that into a polish!

Anyway, I sent my inquiry off to find out how much the glitter was.  To my surprise the price was very reasonable, but it was cheap for a reason.  That reason was I had to buy a minimum of 5 lbs (or 2.27kg) per colour.  What the hell would I do with that much glitter?  The reason the glitter was a good price, and I quote my email:

"Please be noted that Glitter we are no longer to producing, only have stock.  When the stock sold out, no more."

So when I saw that, I figured I should buy the two Ozotic Elytra polishes that I didn't have, because eventually they are not going to be able to make them anymore cause the glitter will be sold out.

So without further adieu, here are my swatches of 529 and 530.

529 - the glitter shifts from blue, through purple to orange and red.  This is two coats over black. Seche Vite top coat.

530 - Shifts from pink through orange and yellow with a green tinge.

I'm not saying go out and get these polishes now before they run out of glitter, because maybe they already have so much glitter it will last all of us our lifetime, but I've always liked to share the info that I find out because knowledge is power! *double punches chest and goes for the knuckle pump*

Mish Mash vs Franken vs Holo top coat + with no black base

Alright lovelies, today I have some comparison photos for you. 

First up is a three finger swatch that does a comparison between:

• Ozotic Mish Mash 532
• My holo multichrome franken made with Spectraflair 1500-35 and Ozotic 505
• Ozotic 505 with a holo top coat.

I'm not telling you which is which yet, cause I want you to have a good look before knowing.

So, what do you think?  My opinion is that they are all indistinguishable from each other.  The colour shift in the multichrome is identical, and the holo effect in all of them looks the same too (even though I did a shitty job at capturing the holo this time!).  I knew my franken was going to be identical, but I didn't expect to get the exact same appearance from just the holo top coat applied over 505.

For the record, index finger on the left is my franken, middle finger is Mish Mash 532 and the ring finger on the right is Ozotic 505 with a single layer of Hits Hefesto Holographic top coat.

Next up I did a skittle swatch of each of the Mish Mash polishes one their own without the black base.  This was four coats of each one.

In the shade above and full sun below.  From left to right: 532, 533, 534 and 531.

The colour shift isn't very strong without the black base but I think these are really quite pretty on their own.  It's a totally different look, much softer but still with a great holographic shine.  I've been wearing these polishes all week over a black base and at the moment I'm a bit over the black base which makes my cuticles look stained around the dry edges.  Its a nice change to see something pretty and pastel.

Ozotic Mish Mash 531

I know quite a few of you have been waiting to see this one :) Ozotic Mish Mash 531. The truth is that I just wasn't feeling this one in the bottle and chose to wear the other blue ones first.  I didn't think I was really going to love this polish, I don't know why, but I just wasn't getting the vibe! 

I put this on and wore it to a wedding on Saturday and I don't know if its because it complimented my outfit so perfectly or what, but WOW was I soooo wrong.  I love this one so much.  It's my favourite out of the bunch of the Mish Mash polishes - hands down!

Ozotic 531 is the holographic version of Ozotic 502.  I'm certain it is 502 and not 520, because when you check the acute angle, it shifts to the bright yellow of 502, rather than the orange of 520 as can be seen in this comparison post.

The sun was also out on Saturday, so I was able to get some sun shots of this, as well as indoor ones.

The strong shimmer of the golden tones makes it a little hard to see the holographic rainbow at this angle.

OMG I love this next photo angle.  This shows what this polish looks like most of the time.  The spectraflair in the polish has toned down the maroon base and made it appear more brown or copper bronze.  The colour reminds me of our old 1c piece (a little like a US penny).

I love how the spectraflair can tone down the colours in a polish.  It seems to work like a blue/violet hair toner used on blonde hair that has a brassy look to it.   There have been so many times when I have been frankening and I think, 'this colour is a little to strong, it needs some white in it', so instead I add a little spectraflair and it's perfect.

Like all the other swatches, this was two coats over a black base.  So which is your favourite?  Are you going to buy any of these? Which one/s?

I did the comparison swatches yesterday (comparing my franken of spectraflair mixed 505 vs Ozotic 532 vs 505 + holo top coat.  The outcome is very interesting.  I also did a quick swatch of each of the Mish Mash polishes without the black base.  So pop on by tomorrow for those.

Ozotic Mish Mash 534

More pretty Ozotic holographic multichrome goodness today.  This is Ozotic 534, which is the holographic version of Ozotic 504.  The base colour for this polish is a rich blue it then shifts through purple to red tones on acute angles. 

This next photo is probably the only one where I managed to catch the red tinge on the middle and index fingers.

This one really is beautiful.  I prefer it over 533, and like it about the same as 532.  Same excellent formula and application as I have come to expect from Ozotic polishes.   This was two coats over a black base with Seche Vite top coat.

No other chit chat tonight, it's been a stupidly busy weekend and I can't believe it's Monday already tomorrow. I feel the need to stop and look around, just as Ferris said, 'Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.'

Ozotic Mish Mash 533

Hello lacquer lovers.  Here is another of the new Mish Mash polishes.  Ozotic 533.  This is the holographic version of Ozotic 506, which is a cyan blue, with a purple multi chrome shift.

This one really does look similar to 532, just as 506 and 505 are very similar too.  

One thing I noted with these polishes that I didn't say yesterday is that because of the Spectraflair in these polishes, the base multichrome colour is paler than the original non-holo version.  Anyone that has played with Spectraflair would know  how that it lightens your polish when you add it.  They have the balance just perfect though, and it only lightens the base slightly.

All these pictures were taken next to the window with diffused overcast skies, using the LED macro light on my camera.  They are all two coats over a black base with Seche Vite top coat.

Also, Amy X asked if I could do a comparison swatch of one of these Mish Mash polishes vs a Spectrafranken holographic multichrome vs a multichrome with a holo top coat applied.  Great idea, I will do up a comparison swatch this weekend.

Ozotic Mish Mash 532

Finally, here is a swatch of one of the new Ozotic Mish Mash polishes.  I got all four and will post a new one each day.  They are all holographic multichromes and they are all of the same high quality as the other Ozotic polishes.   But I do have a couple of things to say about these up front.

Firstly, any long term readers of my blog would know that a holographic multichrome isn't a new or original idea. Why? Cause I did it first, nearly four months ago.  I added Spectraflair to Ozotic 505, which I tell you is exactly what Ozotic has done with this polish, and the others in the Mish Mash range.  Given that all the Ozotic polishes are made with JDSU Chromaflair pigments, I reckon I could say rather confidently, the holographic pigment in these is also a JDSU product, specifically Spectraflair.

Next, tell me, if you were selling a product, would you do everything in your power to present it well and find out exactly what it was?  I know I would.  That's why I found it really strange to read on the Picture Polish facebook page a reply from the lovely ladies at Picture Polish to an excellent question asked about these polishes

Q: So are these a mixture of multichrome AND hologrpahic?

A: You will have to tell us Davina all we know is that they are a mish mash of ozotic's finest ingredients however we think you are pretty spot on!!

Seriously, you're selling these and you don't even really know what they are? And sorry, but what is with that swatch, how the hell is that suppose to help us choose which polishes to get?  Why not try a nail wheel at least?

Now onto the swatch, which I know is what you really want to see.  These are not my best swatches I'm sorry to say. It's been overcast ever since I got these in the mail, so they are taken indoors, with diffused light from the window, with the macro LED light on my camera.  These polishes are also a little tricky to photograph because, holos look best in lots of light, yet multichromes look best in the shade.

Mish Mash 532 is the holographic version of Ozotic 505.  That is, it shifts from a turquoise green base to purple. But of course, this one also has the rainbow prism across the nail.

All these show two coats over a black base.  Wear was excellent. These swatches were taken on day two, and the macro shows a little tip wear, but that is usually for me.  Formula on these was just like applying the multichromes, perfect. 

So if you love 505 and holo polishes, your gonna love this one.  But if you already have 505 (or Sally Hansen Turquoise Opal) and you have some Spectraflair, you could always franken up your own bottle and save the $14.

Ozotic multichrome dry marble

Here are two quick photos I took of my mani that I wore earlier this week.  I put it on on Sunday night and didn't get to photograph it until Tuesday morning before work.  And then, I took only TWO photos.  Why I ask?  Why did I only take two photos? I'm sure I wasn't running that late to work that I couldn't stand there for another minute to capture a few other angles.  Oh well.  Two photos it is. 

I did this as a dry water marble just like I have done my other ones.  My black and gold one and the first ones with the step by step guide.  I find it much easier to do a dry water marble than a regular one. This one wasn't great, it was a little rushed, but the effect was still pretty.

I used my set of Ozotic multichromes; 502, 503, 504, 506 & 507, marbled over black.  The worst thing about only having taken two photos is I didn't even get the best fingers.  My right thumb and index were so good! DOH!

This shot in the sun is lowsey, but I either include it, or only show one picture.

The only real weird thing with this water marble using multichromes is that I wasn't able to see much of the colour shift of any of the polishes anymore.

Now before you go off and say what a great idea this was, know that I saw it first using Ludurana multichromes over on Esmaltes da Kelly. Her's is AMAZING.  I will try this again cause I really want mine to look like hers!

Milani 3D Hi-Res vs Ozotic 606 & 608

Another comparison swatch today to show you how freaking great the Milani 3D Holographic polishes are.  I tried to stick to comparing similar finishes here, that is larger particle scattered holos.  If I had China Glaze Octa-Gone Wild from the Kaleidoscope collection, that would have been the fourth perfect inclusion in this comparisons, but sadly I don't, so I put OPI DS Original.

It's also interesting to see how Ozotic 606 and 608 compare in the same swatch.  Although this may be a different version of 608 than others have?!?

I love the richness of the purple colour in the Milani Holo, the colour is so similar to DS Original, even though the finish on those two are totally different.  

We have another long weekend here in Canberra this weekend. Whoo Hoo, two in a row! But of course it's set to piss with rain all weekend!  So no nail swatching for me :(

Pink holo comparisons - Milani 3D vs Ozotic

Yesterday at work I was speaking with a manager from our PR area, we were talking about social media, facebook, twitter, yammer, blogs.  I told her that I wrote a blog and she was all interested, then I said it was about nail polish.  She looked at me as though I had two heads and said "how on earth do you ever find enough to post about nail polish".  I started my reply with "Oh you have no idea how..." then I stopped myself.  Poor muggles, they just don't get it.  It was so sweet when she said she had about six polishes, and thought she had too many.  Oh dear!

She just wouldn't understand how one person could end up with four polishes like those featured in this post.  That is, four large particle scattered pink holographics.  To my eye, they are all different, to a muggle they are all just pink and sparkly.

The old version of Ozotic 601 is the stand out here, but the other three all come a close second.

In the comments yesterday LeeAnn wondered what the Milani 3D holos would be like with Spectraflair added. Sunnydee said she had done it with the silver one and it was awesome, but the yellow one went too pale. I love the idea of a pale yellow/gold, so I think I might franken with one of these Milani 3D's and add some spectraflair to show you how it goes.

Blue holo comparisons - Milani 3D vs Ozotics

It was a public holiday here yesterday and it was sunny, so I was able to do some comparison swatches that I have been wanting to do for ages.

Today's comparison is with blue large particle scattered holographic polishes.  I have three of these, Milani 3D Cyberspace, Ozotic 603 and Ozotic 617.  I'm bummed that I don't have the blue polish from the CG Kaleidoscope collection (I only have six of the 12 polishes from that collection) as I would have loved to have seen how it compared to the Milani and the Ozotics.

Both the Ozotic fingers in the middle have two coats, and as noted on the images, I did one coat of the Milani on the pinky and two coats on the index.  I was amazed how similar one coat looked to 603, then how similar two coats was with 617!

I think there is a slightly more linear appearance to the rainbow in 603, but really the difference between these polishes is marginal.

The best thing is that the Milani 3D polishes are still really easy to get and still cheap.  Although they are not your amazing linear holos like the OMG collection, Nfu Oh or Gosh Holographic, I think they are totally under rated and anyone that is looking for a cheap holo polish should give these a go.

Ozotic 601 - the other one

I did this swatch two weeks ago, when we were having the most amazing sunny and warm spring days (and when my ring finger hadn't grown out to match the others yet).  Now the weather is horrible with rain and storms, but at least my ring finger looks normal again.

Anywho, when I first posted about Ozotic 601 I showed an amazing large particle holo, with very a obvious linear rainbow. I suspect a few ladies may had gone and bought it then and I feel my pictures might have mislead people. Because then I started seeing swatches pop up of 601, and they looked totally different to mine, and I hate to say it, not as holoie as mine.

It killed me knowing that there was another version of this, so I had to get it to compare.  This is the new version of 601 which is the version Picture Polish sell.  My older version was sourced from Tip Trendz, who have now sold out and restocked with the new version too.  So if you don't have the older version already, too bad, so sad :(

The new version is a much brighter pink.  It still has a scattered holo effect, but nothing like the older version.

Here are the two bottles lined up.  The older shape on the left and the new one on the right.  Although now of course the bottles are rectangle.

This is how they compare on the nail.  The colour difference is very obvious, but in real life, so is the holo effect.  The new version is totally out holoed by the older version.

See, way more holoie goodness on the older version. Why is that? 

Man it makes me crazy when a polish brand changes the colour of a polish.  I know that the Lumineye website says they hand mix small batches of polish, so there would be some colour differences, but seriously if you follow a standard recipe for a polish it should be a little more similar than these two.

New 601, why can't you be more like your older sister 601!
