Day 6: Violet Nails

Today's criteria is Violet Nails but that seems a bit narrow compared to previous days so I took it to mean purple in general. I really don't want to do too much talking today. I want to let you all soak up the pure beauty of this W7 Polish!

This is a colour that I find myself reaching for time after time when I just want to wear something simple and pretty. I don't know how to describe the finish, my best guess is shimmer. What category would you slide this polish into?

Day 5: Blue Nails

We're getting on to the good bit of the challenge now. I'm gonna OWN Blue and Violet! They are definitely my favourite shades when it comes to nail colours!

We all know I'm NYC Top Coat's number one fan and their colours are bloody good too. I'm not normally a lover of frosty/shimmery finishes like this but the boldness of this blue hooked me in when I saw it on Elsa's blog.

It seems to me that NYC are forever changing their polish range, whether it's a complete overhaul of the shades or just a new bottle design, so it's often hit and miss whether you'll be able to find them in Superdrug. I found this blue shade along with a few others in a bargain bucket recently which leads me to think they're making changes again.

Day 4: Green Nails

For today's green nails I chose Barry M Mint Green! I'm a creme finish girl at heart and Barry M make THE most amazing cremes which is probably why they're one of my favourite brands (it also helps that their polish costs a bargainous £2.95 a bottle!). Even though it needed 3 coats for opacity, it's worth it for this beautiful creamy green.

Day 3: Yellow Nails

When I think of nail polish colours, yellow is one of the last on my list and I know a lot of you guys will agree with me. It's just not very flattering on most skin tones so most of the time it gets shoved to the back shelf.

I only have one yellow polish so choosing today's colour was a doddle! I bought it a few months back because I always found myself needing yellow for a few of my freehand nail art ideas but the formula is horrid. 

I had to paint a white base on to my nails before even thinking about applying the yellow because it's watery and I'd need a good 4/5 coats for it to be anywhere near opaque.

Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity for some comedic nail art on this shockingly bright colour!
The thumb is the symbol for radioactivity and on my ring finger is the bio hazard sign.

Day 2: Orange Nails

Today marks the second day of the 31 Day Challenge and also my 400th blog post! Today's criteria is 'Orange Nails'. I can boast a total of 2 orange polishes in my collection and this is the most recent one I purchased. I really need to get some more because I looove wearing this orange. It's from Miss Sporty and it doesn't have a name, just a number - 323.

I used 3 coats of the unnamed Miss Sporty and a top coat of NYC.

I added a coat of Essie Matte About You and I absolutely love the result. It reminds me of orange sorbet ice cream. Yum!

Day 1: Red Nails

Welcome to my attempt at the 31 Day Challenge - a set list of 31 nail designs that I must complete and post here daily for the next month! Cristina from Let Them Have Polish, Rie from Nails and Noms and I are all starting the challenge today in the hope that we will be able to egg each other on and offer one another the encouragement I'm sure we'll need at some point to post every single day for the whole month!

Day 1 is Red Nails so I had to wear my go-to red... Barry M Raspberry. It has a slight berry hint to it as you could guess from the name but still holds its own as a sophisticated, classic red.

No7, I Am Disappoint

Boots are running their £5 off No7 make-up when you spend £5 in store at the moment and since I always need hair dye or products, I  take advantage and stock up while the offer is on so I get a few vouchers. I run right over to the No7 counter and pick out a nail varnish which then costs me just £2. Bargain!

I picked up Minty Fresh which is a lovely colour but an absolute nightmare to apply! The formula is not particularly thin but it drags and streaks like a byatch and needed 4 coats for opacity.

Here's my step-by-step. You can see the extent of streakiness on the first picture. I would recommend you stay away from this polish at all costs! I'm tempted to throw it out because it's so dang frustrating! 

Anyway, on to the nail art... as if this mani couldn't get any worse, the colouring on the bullion that I used came off completely and smudged all the way up my nail when I applied my top coat. I still love the little detail though!

Australian Series: BYS Colour Change nail polish

Hi everyone :) I'm really excited to share with you my experience with mood polishes - or as BYS calls them, colour change nail polish. The most awesome Director Dave over at Fashion Addict was kind enough to provide the Colour Change collection for a review. However, as my nails can only stand so much nail polish remover, I have decided to split this into two posts. Part 2 will hopefully be up shortly!

As it is winter here right now, my hands were seriously freezing when I swatched this; hence I had to run them under warm water to get the colour change. So, first photo shows the cold shade and the following will show the warm shade and/or changing back to cold. I applied two coats in all photos. Also, all the polishes dried to a satin finish so they all have a top coat over them.

The first polish I have for you is Salmon. This was a surprise for me. I didn't think I would like it from the bottle but I really loved the look of it on my tips!

Royal Blue was a stunner. Love it, love it, love it! Blues are seriously growing on me so much. Why ever did I not like them before?! :O

My index and middle finger show the warmer shade while the other two show the cooler and darker shade.

Blue was definitely a polish which requires three coats. It's not as obvious in real life, but you can see how patchy it is at two coats, especially when it's changed to the warmer and lighter colour in the second photo.

Bright purple. Ahhh, what a stunner. It's beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent and look at that shimmer! So, so pretty <3

Love the gradation effect on this the best! The colours go so well together :)

As you can see, it's helpful to have longer nails when wearing these polishes to see the full and grand effect of the colour change. Dark Princess with Dragon's Wing

Models Own Utopia and Purple Smash Up

It's Pink Wednesday and after a few weeks since my last PW post I'm back with a brand new polish to show you!

I don't have very many light colours in my stash at all, and even fewer are pastel shades. I decided to pick up this colour from Models Own since the summer is coming and I want to wear some brighter, more jolly colours on my nails! I wasn't sure if I would like it but I really do and I've worn it quite a few times since I bought it.

The formula isn't great on this polish which I can only describe as pasty. There was a lot of dragging and splotchiness but it's such a pretty colour that I can put up with its pitfalls.

While I was in Boots I noticed a lone bottle of Purple Smash Up on the shelf so of course I grabbed it straight away. I was really surprised to see it as I didn't know the colour ones were released yet, let alone that you could buy them in store - I thought you'd only be able to get them online - so I think I was just in the right time at the right place but I'm still puzzled as to why it was there because this was at least a week ago and as far as I'm aware, they only launched online five days ago.

I think the Models Own Smash Up polishes are the first decent crackles that are readily available here in the UK, especially now that there are quite a few colours to choose from with more on the way. The Barry M Nail Effects just don't do it for me because the colours are so boring and basic.

If you enlarge the picture, you'll see that this polish is metallic. There are tiny pieces of blue, purple and even pink glitter.
