Day 3: Yellow Nails

When I think of nail polish colours, yellow is one of the last on my list and I know a lot of you guys will agree with me. It's just not very flattering on most skin tones so most of the time it gets shoved to the back shelf.

I only have one yellow polish so choosing today's colour was a doddle! I bought it a few months back because I always found myself needing yellow for a few of my freehand nail art ideas but the formula is horrid.
I had to paint a white base on to my nails before even thinking about applying the yellow because it's watery and I'd need a good 4/5 coats for it to be anywhere near opaque.

Of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity for some comedic nail art on this shockingly bright colour!
The thumb is the symbol for radioactivity and on my ring finger is the bio hazard sign.

Nautical Nails

I've been looking for a nice navy blue polish for months since I caught on to the nautical trend for summer and after finally finding one yesterday, I was inspired to create a nautical nail look. I found this bargain in Asda as part of their George Make Up range for £1 (normally £1.75), the colour is Bloom.
I used some really old Collection 2000 polishes for the white and light gold, they don't even have names. The red is Barry M Raspberry and for the Anchor, I used Sally Hansen Chrome in Amber. I'm running perilously low on this so if anyone knows any gold/bronze chromes that I can get my hands on in the UK, please please please let me know because I'm getting desperate!

Barry M Raspberry

My mouth has been annoying me recently. My wisdom teeth have been causing me trouble on and off for years now but I've always just done my best to ignore it and wait for it to pass. I know I should really go to the dentist but I know they're gonna say I need them out and I hate getting anaesthetic, doesn't everyone?
Anyway, my whole jaw has been aching for a few days now and I hate it but I'm handling it like a boss!

I used a different camera for these two pictures and they've come out totally different colours! The first is most colour accurate but I love the second one because it looks so sunny and it's nice to be reminded at this time of year that the sun still exists.

I Got My Hopes Up

I bought a new white polish hoping it would be great for stamping. It's from the George @ Asda range, which are all quick-drying, and I've had two great ones from there - both blues - but this wasn't as opaque as I was hoping. I still think it's good for stamping, just not as great as the Stargazer white I normally use. But still, a nice subtle effect.

Hulk Fail

I was going for a Hulk look with this one. Anyone who is familiar with the comics or the films will know Bruce Banner wears his trademark purple shorts whenever he's angry!

The little pink bits you see are some weird tiny foil strips from Viva La Nails. It's hard to come across ideas for using these.
I tried to make a line with them but ended up just making a mess instead!

I'm staying away from home for a few days and trying to travel light which means I won't be packing many nail supplies or my beast of a camera so I won't be able to post anything for a while. I should be back on Friday.

Shooting flowers

I had such a good time in London on Saturday. One of the best days of mmy summer so far. I even managed to restrain my polish spending and not buy a single one. It wasn't too hard considering I hardly went in any shops!
I have to share one of my favourite pictures from the day. We drove past Big Ben and I quickly grabbed a snap out of the window of the coach and it turned out so you can see my brother reflected in the window! I love it!
To the nails...

I also made enchiladas today. Don't they look yummy? I can assure you they were :D

My polish budget for the year ahead...

I have decided to set myself a Polish budget from now on. I'm not allowed to spend more than £5 each month on nail polish and I'm going to try to stick to this for at least a year.
Buying polish is my vice these days - whatever shop I go into, even the supermarket, I'm always on the prowl for polish and it's breaking the bank! Not to mention taking up a lot of space.

Being a jobless student, I just can't afford to go on the way I am, so I have to stick to this goal. It's not unobtainable because I'm tight with my money as it is and never really spend more than £2.50 for a polish, so I could realistically buy about two new shades a month.

I have been keeping a record (as of last week) and have so far spent £11.50!! So not the best start, but I'm easing myself into it!
When I think about it, £10 in two weeks adds up to £260 a year!!! :o That's a shock to the system. That's a month's rent for me, with some quids left over for the weekends! So... I'm going to write down every polish purchase from now on and hope I have the willpower to cut down my purchasing.

Well this is embarassing...

I'm normally a very organised person but this poll thing has me completely stumped. So, sorry, I feel bad for messing you all around. Anyway, the mani is blue because the last time I checked, before the second poll broke, blue had the most votes.

I've started stashing goodies for my giveaway. There is no theme - I'm just picking up stuff here and there that I like and think all of you will like. At the moment, there are 11 polishes and some bits and bobs. I'm also going to take a leaf from Carli's book and ask you what sweets/chocolate/candy you would like to try from the UK. And don't worry, it will be very well organised!

What fruit is this?

I don't actually think there is a blue fruit. I remember watching a Blue Peter once where they said that we are immediately put off food if it is blue in colour and if you think about it- it's true. There are hardly any blue foods and definitely not 'natural' ones. The only blue food I can think I've ever seen is sugary stuff like sweets and icing. Any thoughts?

Anyway...

This is a new colour I picked up at Asda when I went looking for some new storage for my polishes.
It was marked at £1.50 but came out at £1 ($1.45) at the checkout - I love it when that happens.

I bought a plastic drawer set to house my collection - there are 4 drawers just the right size for most of my polishes but some of the taller bottles have be laid down. Like Sally Hansen's and No7's.
It is just big enough to hold everything and the bottom drawer is dedicated to base/top coats and extra bits and bobs like all my plates, files and brushes etc.

It was about £7 ($10) and no doubt I will be buying another one soon to keep up with my ever-growing stash.

Sorry there was no post yesterday. I got barred from the Internet!
In my university residences (I think it's 'dorms' in America), if you try to use Peer to Peer software like Vuze, or any other bit torrent - you get your internet access suspended for an hour.
Since the Vuze logo is really similar to the Photoshop one, I clicked on that by accident and got myself locked out just as I was getting ready to post this :( It's not even the first time I've done that either, haha.

Last night I went to see 4.3.2.1 which is AMAZING. Got to be the best British film I've seen in ages. Definitely worth a watch. And the soundtrack was really cool too so I'm gonna get that a.s.a.p.

Anyway, there should be another post later if I can control my clicks tonight and avoid another ban.

I know this look really similar to yesterday's colour but I promise it's different!

Fierce

I had a bit of an accident with this one. Right after I'd finished, I managed to spill acetone all over my hand but I didn't have time to do it all again so I just tried to shake it off - so that's why it's a bit smudgy. Haha.

Easy Tiger

I have a few pictures stored already to publish so I will just post them all now.

Most of my Polishes aren't big-branded. I see a lot of OPIs, China Glazes and the like in the blogs I read but don't own a single one! Nor do I have any Konad special polishes. These purchases just can't be justified on a student budget. So... for now I will let you know what I use and where I buy it.
