I got a package today that I was hoping was one thing, but turned out to be a complete surprise. It was from Nubar, samples of yet another upcoming collection, this one called Risque Reds.
I know the idea of a collection of reds is not exciting in itself, but the colors and formula of these are both fantastic. There are two cremes, both of which provided complete coverage (no VNL) in only two coats, and six shimmers that are insanely shimmery. Insanely shimmery. Enough so that the weak natural light I have available doesn't cut it, so I took pics of all of them in both the weak natural light and strong artificial light. All are two coats, only the last one has a top coat.
Sensual Red is a bright creme, and would be a good stand-in for Dior Poppy.

Lustful Red is a darker red creme, more along the lines of Chanel Dragon.

Those are the cremes, which are definitely solid (how I love a red creme that fully covers in two coats!), but it was the shimmers that got me fired up enough to swatch them right away. They're amazing.
Sultry Red is a bright, really vivid red with an absolutely glowy shimmer.

Fiery Red also has a glowy shimmer, but is darker and has the quality where the shinmer makes different parts of the nail appear lit up.

Seductive Red is darker with a bit of purple to it, and also has the glowy, lit up effect. I discovered in choosing pictures that I had a giant piece of felt link on one nail, sorry about that. Also, my pinky has a silk wrap on it, and swatching eight nail polishes on it wreaked havoc on it, so please do your best to ignore the lint in this pic, and the poor degraded silk wrap here on out...

Cabaret Red is a brighter red shimmer, but still glows like the sun.

Enchanting Red is darker, with just a touch of maroon.

Torrid Red is the darkest, a really rich, glowy almost burgundy shade. This is the one I did a full manicure with, and I have some ridge filler on that poor pinky.

Had you told me a few hours ago that I'd ever be excited about a collection of reds, I'd have laughed and laughed. I would have pictured a bunch of reds I'd seen before, yawned, and stretched. However, these shimmers are absolutely on fire, and the cremes are the first I've had that do the trick on two coats that were not super pricey. I'm thrilled with all of these.
This collection comes out on March 1st, and makes me wonder what Nubar will have in store for us in April - they're cranking out the colors this year!
So that's Nubar's Risque Reds Collection, and that's the update for today. Until tomorrow, Dear Reader, love and nail polish to you!
