Yabba Dabba OOOH!

Get ready to go bowling, break out your foot-powered car, and get your Dino on! Today is the 50th anniversary of the 1st episode of the Hanna-Barbera classic, 'The Flintstones'!!! Fun tidbit- for the longest time when I was a kid- I always thought that Hanna Barbera was a person, not the last names of two people. I eventually caught on though... Today's nail art is a tribute to the stone-age smile-inducers- the Flintstones (and the Rubbles). On my left hand, I have Fred, Wilma, and Pebbles Flintstone, with Dino on the ring finger, and a closeup of Fred's garb on the pinky. On the right hand, I painted The Great Gazoo on my thumb, then Barney, Betty, and Bamm-Bamm Rubble, with Bamm-Bamm's club on my pinky.

I used:

Left:

Thumb: Fred Flintstone

Orly Snowcone as a base, with American Apparel Summer Peach for his skin, then mixed with Color Club Best Dressed List for his stubble. For his tongue, I used a combination of American Apparel Palm Springs and Orly Pixy Stix, for his eyes, I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud and for the hair and outlines, I used American Apparel Hassid.

Index: Wilma Flintstone

Orly Snowcone as a base, with American Apparel Summer Peach for her skin, as well as as a base for her hair. For her hair, I used CND Electric Orange. For her necklace and teeth, I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud, China Glaze Salsa for her lips, then outlined everything in American Apparel Hassid.

Middle: Pebbles Flintstone

Orly Snowcone as a base, with American Apparel Summer Peach for her skin, as well as as a base for her hair. Like Wilma, I also used CND Electric Orange for Pebbles' hair. Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud for her eyes and the bone in her hair. For her dress, I used Pure Ice Wild Thing, then outlined everything with American Apparel Hassid.

Ring: Dino

Orly Snowcone as a base, with Color Club Ms. Socialite for the purple, then mixed with American Apparel Palm Springs for his muzzle. I also used this combination in a different strength for his tongue. For his collar, I used Zoya Yummy, with Barielle Aura Angora for his 'dog' tag. I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud for his eyes, and American Apparel Hassid to outline.

Pinky: Fred's 'suit'

CND Electric Orange as a base, with Zoya Yummy for his tie, with American Apparel Hassid to outline, and for the spots on the orange fabric.

Right Hand

Thumb: The Great Gazoo

Orly Snowcone as a base, with L.A. Girl Army Green for his face, CND Green Scene for his shirt and helmet, a mixture of CND Green Scene and
American Apparel Hassid for his collar, Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud for his eyes, and American Apparel Hassid to outline everything.

Index: Barney Rubble

Orly Snowcone as a base, with MAC Abalone Shell for his skin, then mixed with Color Club Best Dressed List for his stubble, American Apparel Manila for his hair, OPI Ginger Bells for his 'suit', and American Apparel Hassid to outline everything.

Middle: Betty Rubble

Orly Snowcone as a base, with American Apparel Summer Peach for her skin, China Glaze Salsa for her lips, Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud for her eyes, and American Apparel Hassid to outline, as well as for her necklace and hair.

Ring: Bamm-Bamm Rubble

Orly Snowcone as a base, with American Apparel Summer Peach for his skin, Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud for his eyes and hair, CND Electric Orange with American Apparel Hassid to outline and for the spots on the hat.

Pinky: Bamm-Bamm's Club

Orly Snowcone as a base, with L.A. Girl Army Green for the club, outlined with American Apparel Hassid.

Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

It's a living.

TOP 10 EYEBROW MISTAKES

And with no further ado - my first post! A big HELLO to all of my new friends at Black Nail Polish & Lip Gloss! My name is Joey Healy and I am a NYC based editorial makeup artist and eyebrow specialist. Like most of you, I’ve been a smitten reader of BNP&LG since its bloggy birth in mid-2009. Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I went to Salon de manila to visit my cousin, Tricia. i remembered that salon de manila's fashion guide is London inspired fashion. they are into all blacks, all whites, or black and white colored outfits. so i created a design out of it. i added rhinestones and LV decals to make it more fashionable.

Materials used:
Caronia: Black Velvet
Art Deco: White

Thanks for reading and i hope you liked my design

Tiny Update & Nerdy Math Nails

Sooo.... sorry I haven't put up a tutorial in a week. Just thought I would say I won't be able to get a tutorial up for another week, at least! I'm going on a trip all weekend (Fri-Sun) so it's going to be harder to make one with Saturday out. I also have been focusing on schoolwork instead of nail tutorials, so I apologize for that! I really would love to make tutorials like 3 times a week, but realistically it can't happen.

Meanwhile, here is a nail design that I did that wasn't something I would make in to a tutorial, but I thought they were pretty funny.

Pinky - Addition
Ring - Subtraction

Middle - Multplication
Pointer - Division

Thumb - Pi

Heh heh, just showing you my nerdy side. (Btw, if I memorized the first 20 numbers of pi, does that make me a nerd?!) Haha, anyways....
P.S.
Heh heh.

OPI Burlesque: The Glitters

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Since I have OPI Burlesque and reasonable sunlight this morning, I also have swatches of six of the OPI Burlesque Collection for Holiday 2010, the six glitter polishes.  I was a little apprehensive about these, wondering if they'd only be suitable for layering, but they're all opaque with 2-3 coats.  I used two coats of each for the swatches, but some could have used a third, I discovered upon reviewing the pictures.

Glow Up Already! is primarily gold with a few red and green bits.

Simmer & Shimmer is mostly blue with red and silver.

Extra-va-vaganza is mostly orange with silver.

Bring on the Bling is gold with red and green.

Sparkle-icious is a pretty even mix of gold, purple, and blue.

Finally, Show It and Glow It! is primarily purple with some silver.  This one has one coat of Seche Vite on it.

I'm wearing Show It and Glow It!, and one coat of top coat just isn't enough - it probably needs two more to be smooth.  That's to be expected with dense glitters though, so no surprises there.

That's it for today, Dear Reader.  Until next time, love and nail polish to you!

Nail art #11 - Water marbling

I'm not sure I quite like how my water marbling turned out; I really have had better. Somehow the red on white polish gives my nails a rather bloody look.

Polishes used:
Maybelline Colorama Candy Apple
Ulta3 Lily White
water marbling

I don't like the positioning on my first finger ,and the frustrating thing is that I had quite a nice pattern for it too. I got over-anxious, I suppose :/. Topcoat (Ulta3 Non-chip) also streaked the red polish, even though it was applied after awhile.

Thanks for dropping by.

People Say I'm Nuts

...but really, I'm just a-corny. :-D (bad joke)

A book came out yesterday from my FAVORITE author, David Sedaris, called 'Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary'. I bought it tonight, and I'm SO excited to read it. Seriously, if you haven't heard of him, or if you have, but haven't read any of his stuff yet, you seriously need to get on it. The man is a genius, and I've laughed more while reading his books or listening to him speak than I have at most comedians. His deadpan delivery and dry, self-deprecating humor will have you rolling, and I highly suggest, at the very least, LISTENING to one of his audiobooks. (My favorite is the Santaland Diaries, which chronicles his experience employed as an elf at Christmastime in a major department store) A while back, reader Shannon L. suggested that I do squirrel nails, and that got me thinking about acorns, and tonight, I joined both ideas together in honor of the new Sedaris book! :) The acorns turned out to be a funky version of a french manicure! (with lots of shading!! :-D)

and my nails with my new book.... :-D

I used American Apparel Palm Springs as a base, with butter LONDON Crumpet over it, then mixed OPI Ginger Bells with American Apparel Palm Springs and MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious for the tips, with a darker version of that mixture for the textured 'scales' on the acorn caps. For the shading on the acorn, I used a mixture of American Apparel Palm SpringsOPI Ginger Bells and MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious to shade, a mix of OPI Ginger Bells and American Apparel Palm Springs for the darker highlight, then pure American Apparel Palm Springs for the main highlight. For the thumb, I used OPI What's With the Cattitude? as a base, with American Apparel Palm Springs as a base for the squirrel, topped with OPI Ginger Bells, then a mixture of OPI Ginger Bells and MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious over that, then a few swipes of American Apparel Palm Springs around the eye, ear, and tail. For the eye, I used American Apparel Hassid, and for the grass I used CND Green Scene , L.A. Girl Army Green, and Pure Ice Wild Thing. Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Stand on the magic star, and you can see Cher!!

E.L.F Purple Pleaser Swatch (and with Konadding)

Here is E.L.F's Purple Pleaser. This comes very close to the colour I was expecting when I ordered Punk Purple last time which I was very disappointed with. But this colour definitely makes up for the disappointment.

So if you are buying one of these purples from E.L.F be aware that this is Purple Pleaser and Punk Purple looks dull pink IRL.

Then I added some stamping to the colour but I think it looked better before.

Sally Hansen Downtown Rubies

Good morning, Dear Reader!

Today I have another of the limited edition Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes, Downtown Rubies.  It's fine red glitter in a clear base, dense enough to be opaque in three coats.  I finished it with two coats of Seche Vite, but once it completely dried, it was less than smooth - it needs at least one more coat of top coat.  However, it looks cool, so that's good enough for now.

So another good one from this collection.  That's all for today, Dear Reader.  Until next time, love and nail polish to you!

Friki Tiki

I've always loved the aesthetic of tiki masks, and the funky feel they have. I like the different face shapes and facial expressions that you can see on them, whether silly or scary, tiki culture is awesome!! Today's manicure is my interpretation of the wooden tikis that are often portrayed for parties and shindigs. :-D

I used Color Club Best Dressed List as a base, then mixed with MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious to shade, and mixed with American Apparel Palm Springs to highlight. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Something I learned last night while making cookies- if you put chunks of caramel in cookies, you have to let them cool to remove them from the cookie sheet, otherwise you get a lot of broken cookies that you have to eat, because naturally, you can't give away broken cookies, now can you? (what, I think I've stumbled on a great idea here...more cookies for me!!)

Update on Manhattan 610K

Ok ladies I wanted to update you on the post I did about "Where will this babe go next?"

If you don't remember my post you can read about it (HERE) and you can see my mani from this polish (HERE)

Well this babe finally got to it's first destination. Where you ask? It's in the UK.

Sammy over at The nailasaurus posted about getting my package with this babe in it. I can't wait to see who gets this polish next, If you want to be involved please go on over to her Manhattan post (HERE) and sign up.

I will keep updating about this polish to show every where it's traveled.

Thanks

Where will this baby go next? Take two...

Hey guys... sorry for the lack of a Konadicure post for a while. It's been a busy weekend here with me moving house and all the 'Freshers' events taking place so I've been really busy and not had any time to do my nails, let alone get pictures and get them up here.

However, I have some exciting news. My package from Kesha, who is over at Nail Polish Obsession, arrived yesterday . She is based in Germany and had the great idea of sending a German brand nail polish on a trip around the world. You can see her post here. She asked which of her readers wanted to receive the polish next so I put my name down and she chose me to be the next lucky recipient.

The polish is Manhattan 610k there is no colour name, just a number.
Here is the package that Kesha sent me. She was really nice to include some sweet little extras.

The polish is nicely wrapped up in the little bag next to the little scroll where I have to write my details before I pass it on to the next person.

And here is the polish itself. It's a royal, plum purple.

The conditions of me receiving this polish are that I must post a manicure with it on my blog then pass it on to someone else who has a blog in a different country and will also share their mani with us.

I am asking who would like to get this polish next. If you're interested in seeing this as a guest polish in your collection please leave a comment letting me know how I can contact you, your blog name and your country of residence. I will pick the next recipient using random name picker.

If you want to be involved please be sure you are aware of the conditions of this game....
You must have a blog where you will post a mani you've done with this polish
You must offer your readers the same chance to receive it that I have here and post it along (no keepies!)

So, please leave your comments below and I'll announce who it will be when I post my mani with this polish. It may be a while as I want to wait for my broken nail to grow back a bit :)

More Limited Edition Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicures

Good morning, Dear Reader!

There was good sun yesterday, so today I have more swatches of the new limited edition Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polishes, another three.

Before getting to today's, I ought to mention that taking off Problem Child was a huge hassle.  Those little flaky bits were seriously stuck on there - I'd rather remove Starry, Starry Flight twice than remove Problem Child once.

On to new pictures... Golden Ticket is a gold glitter that I thought wouldn't be opaque, but three coats later it was.

Feeling Saucy is a fuchsia shimmer that was good in two coats.

Fedora is a really nice brownish beige with a gold shimmer, also a two-coater.

You can see the variety in this collection, and that there are quite a few really strong colors.  I hope to one day get past the names.

That's the update for today, Dear Reader.  Until next time, love and nail polish to you!
